3 Tips for Sustainable Weight Loss This Year!

There’s a mounting body of evidence regarding the rise of obesity in America. What’s worse, only one in six Americans who were overweight or obese in the past manage to maintain their weight loss in the long run.

The reason for this is simple: their weight loss journey wasn’t sustainable. It probably focused on extreme changes that allowed them to drop pounds quickly. After the initial rush, most people go back to their old ways.

If you’re looking to achieve sustainable weight loss, these tips can guide you through it:

1. Be Realistic

We’d all love to have flat abs in six weeks, but that isn’t an attainable goal for most of us. Having unrealistic expectations is only going to demotivate you when you can’t achieve them.

Sustainable weight loss is a slow process that involves changing your diet, exercising, creating a daily routine, etc. The effects of these changes take some time to kick in.

The changes you want to make in your life need to be achievable. It’s not realistic to think that you’ll be able to prepare healthy meals every night; it’s easier to commit to cooking for yourself a couple of nights a week, and ordering in from a healthy restaurant the rest of the time.

2. Knowing Your Intrinsic Motivation

People who struggle with weight loss often haven’t taken the time out to identify their intrinsic motivations. Just wanting to be healthy isn’t usually enough for most people; they need something more tangible.

To stay driven on your weight loss journey, delve deep and ask yourself why you want to be healthier. Is it to prevent sickness? Is it because you’ll feel better about yourself if you were in shape?

Once you identify your intrinsic motivation, it’s easier to stay on track.

3. Opt for a Dietary Approach That Is In Line With Your Needs

A dietary approach that works for one person may not work for another person. Everyone has their unique requirements. Some fitness experts will tell you to cut out all sugars for a few weeks—but even JLo has a hard time cutting sugar from her diet!

While some people prefer strict diet plans, others do better by sticking to healthier options, having balanced meals, moderating portions, and limiting unhealthy foods.

If a particular dietary approach is way too demanding, it probably isn’t right for you.
